RUNWAY HAWKE'S BAY TRUST
The primary objective of the Trust is to contribute to the economic development of the Hawke’s Bay region through the establishment of a jet capable airport runway.
We believe that the establishment of a jet capable runway, and ultimately the introduction of direct trans-Tasman air services, will provide enormous social and economic benefit to the residents of Hawke’s Bay.
A 2007 report by APR commissioned by Hastings District Council, Napier City Council, HB Regional Council & HB Inc showed that an overwhelming 90% of Hawke’s Bay residents support extending the runway to become jet capable (1,900m or more) while only 3% were opposed.
An economic impact research report released by BERL in 2007 concluded that expanding the airport would provide an economic boon for Hawke's Bay, and passenger numbers would be commercially viable for a trans-Tasman carrier.
